Review of rent pressure zones to proceed despite concerns, cabinet subcommittee agrees
Briefly

The Irish government is under pressure regarding housing supply and the potential expiration of the Rent Pressure Zone (RPZ) regulations, which has tenants worried about rising rents. A housing subcommittee has committed to updating the 'Housing for All' plan, with the goal of meeting ambitious housing targets. Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has rejected tax breaks for developers, while Taoiseach Micheál Martin has shown interest in exploring such options, creating tension within the coalition government. The establishment of a Strategic Housing Activation Office aims to speed up infrastructure development to facilitate housing construction.
Housing delivery is the number one priority for this Government. The Government has set itself ambitious housing targets. This will require an updated Housing for All [plan].
What I'm not going to do is reintroduce or propose the very tax reliefs that did such harm to our economy, and then the building of homes for many years, in Ireland.
The committee also agreed to establish the Strategic Housing Activation Office which will see staff from the main utility providers seconded on a full-time basis to tackle delays in the country's infrastructure.
