J.T. Jobbagy, Inc., one of the last meatpackers in Manhattan’s historic Meatpacking District, is moving out to make space for new housing development.
John Jobbagy, the owner, reflected on the changes: 'We’re well aware there are far better uses for this property than an aging meat warehouse. I'm not really sad at all.'
Jobbagy’s family has deep roots in the Meatpacking District, dating back over 125 years. 'I started working alongside my family as a teenager,' he recalls.
The neighborhood has transformed significantly, with the industry fading since the 1980s, leading to the decline of meatpacking in Manhattan.
