The first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff was an absolute success. It has created higher stakes in regular season games, brought in new faces, and set the stage for exciting campus-based first-round games. The playoff field looks wide open, fulfilling all expectations.
I don’t necessarily agree with every seed in the rankings, but the committee selected the right teams. SMU deserved its spot over Alabama, in this context of valuing conference championships, despite Alabama’s stronger wins, their losses were more detrimental to their ranking.
