The prospect of five English clubs competing in the Champions League next season is in jeopardy due to recent eliminations of Manchester City and Arsenal.
The introduction of European Performance Spot (EPS) from this season means the two countries performing the best in men's European club competitions will gain an additional spot for their clubs in the following season's Champions League.
The rankings, known as the association club coefficient, determine which countries will earn the additional spot in the Champions League based on their collective performance in European club competitions.
Germany currently leads England in the association club coefficient rankings, putting the fifth-placed English club at risk of missing out on a spot in the Champions League.
