Jacob Chansley, known as the QAnon Shaman, derailed a BBC interview with Victoria Derbyshire by refusing to explain his guilty plea for the January 6 Capitol riot while mocking the host. His bizarre behavior included adopting a strange British accent and deflecting questions about his motivations. Despite pleading guilty to obstructing an official proceeding, Chansley claimed the media has distorted his actions, and he expressed jubilation upon receiving a pardon from Trump, describing it as a moment of freedom.
As Derbyshire asked whether Chansley had entered the building to overthrow the election, he replied: I did not go into the building for that reason. And the fact that you still think that I did just shows how distorted the media lens actually is.
Chansley explained: I got the news from my lawyer when I was at the gym and I walked outside and I screamed freedom at the top of my lungs and then gave a good Native American war cry.
Chansley responded: Oh, yeah? I want you to think about something. The mockingbirds in the media and the government demonized me. They made me a social pariah.
Insisting that it wasn't her intention to narrativize his story, she questioned Chansley about his guilty plea, pointing out that he pleaded guilty to obstructing an official proceeding.
