While waiting for a new residence permit in Germany, holders of previous permits that allowed work can continue their jobs without interruption. However, if their last permit did not permit employment, they must wait for a new one to begin working legally. Travelling internationally during this waiting period can complicate re-entry, especially for individuals from countries without free entry agreements with Germany. In such cases, obtaining a temporary stay permit (Fiktionsbescheinigung) can facilitate potential travel, but it is crucial to ensure this permit allows for travel outside Germany.
If you are already legally working in Germany you can continue to do so until your residency status is changed.
If your last residence permit did grant you the right to work in Germany then you can keep working until your permit is renewed.
If you need to travel while waiting for a new residence permit, you can usually gain permission to do so in the form of a temporary stay permit.
Once your residence permit has expired, you’ve lost the legal right to enter Germany, so re-entry may be problematic.
