The scam, referred to as quishing, involves using a deceptive QR code to trick users into providing sensitive information. The user will scan the code and be directed towards a website which requests credit card information and other personal data.
Fingal County Council said the matter has been referred to Gardaí. Our parking wardens are out assessing machines today, removing any bogus QR codes placed on the machines.
Like our teams, Payzone have been out on the street removing the stickers completely from the machines. This will take some time though.
Aontú councillor Emer Tóibín said a similar scam took place in Navan, Co Meath, involving fake QR codes attached to parking meters.
