Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was arrested in the Dominican Republic following an altercation involving guns, as he awaits trial for sexual abuse charges.
Franco was already on MLB's restricted list since July after accusations emerged claiming he had a sexual relationship with a minor, leading to the investigation.
With a court trial scheduled for December 12, Franco faces serious charges including sexual exploitation against a minor, potentially facing a 20-year prison sentence.
Despite his legal troubles, Franco secured an 11-year, $182 million contract extension with the Rays in 2021, before making his All-Star debut in 2023.
