PETA Is Not Looking Forward to Robert Eggers's "Nosferatu"
Briefly

Nosferatu has received acclaim for its artistry, but the film is also under fire from PETA for its negative portrayal of rats, prompting protests.
"A human is no more likely to be harmed or killed by a rat in real life than by a vampire, and false portrayals... deny viewers the chance to see them as the intelligent... individuals they are," said PETA’s Lauren Thomasson.
PETA criticizes the film for perpetuating the myth that rats are responsible for the bubonic plague, stating fleas were the true carriers of the disease.
Though the criticism may seem out of place for a vampire film, PETA consistently addresses harmful animal depictions, emphasizing that rats can be friendly pets.
