The U.S. Senate election in Pennsylvania is moving towards a statewide recount, initiated by the narrow margin of votes between incumbent Bob Casey and challenger David McCormick.
As of Wednesday, McCormick led by about 28,000 votes out of more than 6.9 million ballots counted, triggering an automatic statewide recount under Pennsylvania law.
Election officials highlighted that the recount primarily involves scanning paper ballots, which is unlikely to change the outcome significantly, possibly altering the total by only a few hundred votes.
Casey’s campaign contends that McCormick and his allies are attempting to disenfranchise voters, especially in their challenges against provisional ballots from registered Democrats.
