With daylighting laws preventing parking within 20 feet of crosswalks effective from January 1, 2024, enforcement is becoming tricky due to the SFMTA not completing the necessary curb markings. This uncertainty prompted a vigilante action in San Francisco's Richmond District, where fake red curbs were painted, misleading drivers about parking regulations. The faux markings extend 35 feet from the crosswalk instead of the required 20 feet. Smart enforcement is vital as actual violations will soon result in costly tickets, and SFMTA is keeping track of these counterfeit markings.
Some anti-parking vigilante took matters into their own hands in the Richmond District, and painted fake no parking red curbs.
The fake red curbs were spotted by a Redditor at Balboa Street and 18th Avenue, and the renegade paint job has a fairly convincing version of the yellow SFMTA logo font.
SFMTA has now confirmed they are not real and they are aware of these popping up in the Richmond and asking for any info.
