Palestinians return to northern Gaza after months of displacement
Briefly

On Monday, following a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians returned to northern Gaza. This marked a significant change from previous evacuations ordered during the conflict. Families undertook arduous journeys, often carrying their limited belongings or using makeshift transport. As they returned, many found devastation and no basic services. The toll of the conflict was evident as they searched for homes amidst the rubble, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
“There were no cars, no services along the way, not even water,” Asaad said, describing a scene of destruction in northern Gaza as he rested for the night inside an eye hospital in Gaza City.
The dramatic mass migration was a reversal from the early weeks of the war, when the Israeli military ordered more than 1 million Palestinians to evacuate south of the corridor.
