Sharia Shajahan, a Stepney Green resident, has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for abusing three young girls, demonstrating the enduring impact of child sexual abuse.
The abuse occurred between May 1999 and September 2000 but only came to light in 2019, highlighting the long-lasting effects and challenges victims face in coming forward.
Det Sgt Steve Ward emphasized that Shajahan's actions caused immense suffering to vulnerable children, stating, 'His despicable behaviour caused suffering no child should have to endure.'
Det Supt Ward praised the victims for their bravery in supporting the prosecution, saying, 'Their bravery is admirable, and I hope this sentencing can bring them some sense of closure.'
