The ICCL questioned the decision to publish the images and expressed concerns over the impact they might have on the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial.
It comes with significant risk. The difference between previous efforts by the gardaí compared to what's occurring now… is the scale.
The issue for us is that this is a significant outsourcing of police work to a certain extent. Our concerns are that there could be unintended consequences to this.
They held a press conference, they invited national media. This relates to a night of huge public disorder, criminal damage, violence that naturally attracted huge national and international attention.
