Under the leadership of Mayor Eric Adams, New York City's early childhood education programs have expanded significantly, serving a record 150,000 children. This year marked a historic milestone, where every family that applied for the 3-K program by the deadline received an offer. The demand has surged, with applicants increasing from 14,000 in 2019 to over 43,000 in the current year. In response, the administration has made substantial increases in placement offers, ensuring access and affordability for working-class families by reducing co-payments for subsidized child care.

The number of applicants for early childhood education this school year tripled compared to pre-pandemic numbers, jumping from 14,000 applicants in 2019 to over 43,000 this year.
We’ve responded by increasing the number of offers made to families by an incredible 350 percent, from 9,500 offers in 2019 to over 43,000 this year.
