Tamara Breau recalled hiking the Artist's Bluff Loop Trail, which was typically easy, but with current conditions was "completely unsafe" due to overcrowded trails.
Chris McKee, a conservation officer, noted that people descending Cannon Mountain faced dire conditions without lights or water, exposing them to significant danger in the cold.
He further emphasized that fall weather can feel deceiving, warning tourists that in the mountains, it can already feel like winter with snow and ice.
Despite harsh conditions, many tourists came inadequately prepared, as Breau mentioned seeing people in slippers and short shorts, highlighting the safety risks involved.
