Recent reports indicate that the 12VHPWR power cable issue has resurfaced with the Nvidia RTX 5090 Founders Edition GPUs. Several users have reported burnt power connectors and damaged PSUs, reminiscent of problems encountered with the RTX 4090. While Nvidia attributes the issue to improper connections, issues have also been observed with cables from reputable manufacturers. The 12VHPWR connector was first introduced with the RTX 40-series GPUs, but now PCI-SIG has updated the standard to mitigate these issues, introducing the 12V-2x6 connector.
While it's tempting to blame the MODDIY cable, Spanish YouTuber Toro Tocho experienced the same burnt cable with an RTX 5090 Founders Edition.
Nvidia blamed the issue on people not properly plugging the 12VHPWR power connection in fully, while PCI standards body blamed Nvidia.
