Retail sales volumes rose by 0.2% in November 2024, following a fall of 0.7% in October, indicating a slight recovery in consumer spending.
Charlie Huggins noted, "the UK consumer appears to be limping towards the finish line in 2024... clothing sales volumes are at their lowest in almost three years."
Huggins added, "The Autumn Budget leaves UK retailers between a rock and a hard place... margins across the sector are likely to come under pressure."
