Norway releases Russian-crewed ship after cable damage investigation
Briefly

Norwegian authorities have released the Russian-crewed ship Silver Dania after an investigation found no evidence linking it to damage of a crucial underwater fibre optics cable in the Baltic Sea. The ship was initially detained at the request of Latvian authorities for inspection, as it was suspected of being involved in the damage. Norwegian police confirmed they conducted necessary investigations but concluded the vessel could leave Tromsø. The ship’s owner, Tormod Fossmark, claimed that the vessel had no involvement in the incident and was cooperating with authorities.
Tromsø police district has now conducted a number of investigative steps and secured what we see as necessary considering the request from Latvia.
We have no involvement in this whatsoever. We did not have any anchors out or do anything, so that will be confirmed today.
