Fan favorite Nick Kyrgios will be making his much-anticipated return to grand slam tennis at the Australian Open, utilizing a protected ranking of No. 21 to gain entry.
Kyrgios, a previous Wimbledon finalist and quarter-finalist at the US Open, aims to capture the singles title at the Australian Open to complement his doubles success.
Kyrgios is not alone in his comeback as the tournament also welcomes Olympic champion Belinda Bencic, who returns after maternity leave and joins others using protected rankings.
The Australian Open has set an entry cut-off ranking at world No. 98 for main draws, with a total of 104 direct acceptances and additional wildcard spots.
