The attack began around 3.15 AM, near Bourbon Street, where the suspect drove a white Ford F-150 into a crowd, resulting in 15 deaths and dozens injured.
Police Supt Anne Kirkpatrick stated that the man was hellbent on carnage, driving at high speed with the intent to create maximum damage during the New Year celebrations.
The attacker, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was a US army veteran who served in Afghanistan and was associated with an Islamic State flag discovered in his vehicle.
With the situation still unfolding, FBI officials indicated they were investigating any possible accomplices to Jabbar's deadly attack on New Year's revelers.
