Jason D. Riddle from New Hampshire has opted to decline a pardon offered by Donald Trump related to his participation in the January 6 Capitol riot. Riddle, who stole a bottle of wine and a book during the riot, was sentenced to jail and fined. He believes accepting the pardon would imply that the violence of that day was justifiable. Riddle, a recovering alcoholic, is also politically active, having supported Kamala Harris in the past. His personal journey includes dealing with societal backlash and a commitment to personal growth after his actions on January 6.
Riddle said taking the pardon would be tantamount to asserting what happened on Jan. 6 was acceptable. He expressed a desire to not endorse that viewpoint.
Riddle described his participation in the events of January 6 as 'stupid things,' asserting he became involved with the 'wrong people' during that time.
Bobby Schoen, Riddle's husband, emphasized the challenges Jason faced, including hate mail and social ostracism, yet highlighted Jason's growth as a person.
Prosecutors alleged that Riddle sought to 'capitalize on his crimes' by claiming they could help his political aspirations, which ultimately did not succeed.
