Zulfi Khan of Capel Estates is seeking permission from Redbridge Council to convert 2 Crossway into five flats. However, local residents are voicing concerns that the area is already overdeveloped and lacks sufficient parking. Protests occurred on January 11, with some residents arguing that the proposed changes would set a negative precedent. Brendan Company, a longtime resident, highlighted the increasing number of flats in the area, citing previous developments by Capel Estates that had also faced local opposition. Although some works were deemed unlawful, the council has allowed the developers to amend their plans.
‘You only have to look over the last ten years at the amount of flats that this part of Redbridge has had to take on considering the shortage of family homes in the borough.’
