"Fittingly enough for a still life, it would appear that the small Picasso painting that triggered a police investigation after apparently vanishing while en route from Madrid to Granada for an exhibition earlier this month may never have moved from its pick-up point. The CajaGranada foundation received a consignment of loaned exhibits on 3 October that included a small 1919 Picasso gouache, Naturaleza muerta con guitarra, valued at €600,000. The picture failed to arrive on the delivery van from Madrid. Some works were carefully packaged but lacked correct numbering, preventing a full inventory; the delivery was signed off and the van departed. Video surveillance recorded the packed pieces over the weekend and foundation staff unpacked them on the following Monday. Foundation staff discovered the Picasso missing, reported it to the Policia Nacional, and the work was subsequently recovered while the investigation remains open.
