Motorists arrested every 36 minutes for suspected drink and drug driving over the bank holiday
Briefly

Inspector Gillian Synnott of An Garda Síochana reported on the worrying trend of Irish drivers ignoring crucial road safety messages during the recent bank holiday crackdown. Over the first four days of the campaign, more than 1,000 motorists were stopped for speeding and over 160 were arrested for suspected drink or drug driving. Inspector Synnott emphasized the need for individuals to adhere to road rules and cautioned that excessive speeding continues to be a significant issue, urging motorists to slow down and plan their journeys responsibly.
From the point of view of An Garda Síochana, we have still seen a number of people arrested for drink and drug driving.
We want to impress on people - slow down. Plan your journey, take your time, do not use mobile phones while driving, slow down and abide by the rules of the road.
Nationally, since the (St Brigid's Bank Holiday weekend) campaign kicked off we have had over 160 arrests for drink and drug driving.
