At the 149th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, Monty the Giant Schnauzer clinched the coveted Best in Show title, marking a significant moment for the Working Group as their first win since 2004. The competition featured seven quality pups, showcasing the diversity and excellence among various breed groups. Bourbon the Whippet was a notable runner-up, making her third appearance in that position. The event, overseen by Judge Paula Nykiel, also celebrated a return to Madison Square Garden after COVID-19, elevating the excitement of this historic dog show.
This year's competition was loaded with seven highly presentable pups representing their breed groups - all putting their best paw forward in this historic competition - but only one came away the top dog: Monty the Giant Schnauzer.
This was Monty's third time in a row representing the Working Group. The stunning and strong bearded black dog hails from New Jersey.
This was the first win for the Working Group since 2004, ending the longest drought for any group in the famed competition.
Judge Paula Nykiel said that picking the best of the best is a 'wonderful' but 'difficult' responsibility.
