Gael Monfils made history as the oldest player to win an ATP Tour title at 38 years, 132 days, beating Zizou Bergs in the Auckland final.
Monfils expressed his driving passion for tennis, stating, 'I love tennis. I love what I'm doing so of course all the sacrifices you do, they are a little bit easier'.
Monfils indicated that his joy for tennis would persist, stating, 'I've been enjoying myself since the first day I played tennis and (at) 60 years old I will still have this joy.'
The Auckland final was briefly paused due to a medical emergency, yet Monfils demonstrated his classic blend of aggression and defense to secure victory.
