The search for Elizabeth Pollard, 64, intensifies as rescuers grapple with the possibility she fell into a 30-foot sinkhole while searching for her missing cat, Pepper.
"The sinkhole, it appears that it was most likely created during the time while, unfortunately, Miss Pollard was walking around," Trooper Steve Limani commented, highlighting the unexpected nature of the incident.
Around 100 local volunteers joined the search efforts in Unity Township, as authorities confirmed that Pollard's 5-year-old granddaughter was discovered unharmed in a nearby vehicle.
Old coal mining operations in the area raise concerns as to whether the sinkhole could be linked to subsurface activities, but this connection remains unconfirmed.
