Meta has started testing a facial recognition system that allows users locked out of their accounts to verify their identity by submitting a video, facilitating access.
The technology also aims to address scams, as Meta is currently testing its ability to detect "celebrity bait ads" that mislead users with AI-generated images of famous personalities.
Although Meta halted its previous facial recognition program in 2021, citing privacy concerns, they still view the technology as vital for identity verification in fighting account fraud.
Notably, Meta is not implementing this new system in regions with strict data privacy laws, such as the EU and UK, to comply with local regulations.
