Met Eireann issues warning of more flooding to come as rain forecast for 'saturated ground'
"The forecaster issued a warning on social media platform X with particular reference to counties Waterford, Wexford, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Kildare, Dublin, Meath, Louth and Monaghan. It said that a weather system next week could bring even more rain to these areas but the exact track of this wet weather remains uncertain. "Because the ground is already saturated, even moderate rain could cause quick surface flooding," it said."
""High tides combined with strong winds could lead to coastal flooding, the forecaster added. "These high tides can slow river discharge, increasing the risk of flooding in low lying coastal and estuary areas." Meanwhile the National Emergency Co-ordination Group (NECG) and the Humanitarian Subgroup met today to continue to coordinate the response to recent flooding. Taoiseach Micheal Martin and Minister for Housing James Browne joined the NECG meeting today and have been briefed on the situation and response."
A forecaster warned on social media platform X that a weather system next week could bring additional rain to counties Waterford, Wexford, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Kildare, Dublin, Meath, Louth and Monaghan. The ground is already saturated, so even moderate rain could cause quick surface flooding and people near rivers are advised to monitor local conditions and river gauges. High tides combined with strong winds could cause coastal flooding by slowing river discharge and increasing flooding risk in low-lying coastal and estuary areas. The National Emergency Co-ordination Group and Humanitarian Subgroup met to coordinate the response, with senior ministers briefed. Local authority crews, Civil Defence, Irish Red Cross volunteers and other response agencies are assisting, road closures and transport impacts are possible, and financial supports are available while people are urged to check local authority channels for updates.
