Connecticut has taken a significant step in addressing medical debt, with plans to notify 23,000 residents that $30 million of their medical debt will be paid off, thanks to partnerships with Undue Medical Debt.
Governor Ned Lamont emphasized that 'Medical debt is something you don't necessarily have any control over,' highlighting the devastating impact sudden medical emergencies can have on individuals' financial stability.
Undue Medical Debt has proven effective since its inception in 2014, having successfully erased roughly $15 billion of medical debt by focusing on vulnerable populations and collaborating with state governments to alleviate financial burdens.
Connecticut plans to ultimately wipe out $1 billion in medical debt for approximately 250,000 residents, showcasing a growing movement among states to tackle the financial crisis stemming from medical expenses.
