Mass. hikers tell the story of how they were rescued during Mount Washington whiteout
Briefly

Kathryn McKee and Beata LeLacheur, experienced hikers from Massachusetts, faced perilous conditions while descending Mount Washington after hiking neighboring peaks. Despite their preparation with warm clothing and headlamps, worsening weather—including strong winds and waist-deep snow—hampered their descent. After spending an hour trying to self-rescue from snow traps, they called 911. New Hampshire conservation officers directed them towards what turned out to be an elusive trail, obscured by harsh weather conditions. Eventually, they were rescued after struggling to navigate through treacherous terrain.
It took like 20 minutes to get out of that, and that kept happening. We were literally, like, crawling on our bellies to try to get to the next point.
They ended up on the trail several times but could not follow it as it had been completely erased by wind and snow.
