Mass. congressional delegation wants answers from Stop & Shop about price disparities
Briefly

U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, alongside Reps. Jim McGovern and Ayanna Pressley, emphasized that Stop & Shop must explain its pricing practices by the October 14 deadline.
Sen. Warren highlighted the disparity, stating, 'Customers in Jamaica Plain are paying $1.50 more for a frozen pepperoni pizza—almost 30% more—than people in Dedham, and that's unacceptable.'
The investigation by the Hyde Square Task Force revealed that Stop & Shop charges 18% more for groceries in less affluent areas, contrasting sharply with affluent suburbs.
The consequences of such price discrimination can lead to a household spending $2,808 more annually if they shop at the Jamaica Plain location instead of its Dedham counterpart.
