Mark Zuckerberg explained his rationale for changing the company's content moderation policies during Friday's episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, claiming the need to combat ideological censorship.
In response to criticism of the changes, Zuckerberg stated that it goes back to their original mission to "give people the power to share" and not censor content based on ideology.
He acknowledged that after the 2016 election, a system of third-party fact-checkers was put in place, but it evolved into a gray area leading to claims of bias.
Zuckerberg pointed out that the push for content censorship intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic, amid institutional pressures to manage misinformation.
