On July 26, a manatee was sighted in a Cape Cod inlet, marking nearly a decade since the last sighting in September 2016. Stevie Petrucci spotted the manatee while walking at his dock in Mashpee. He was surprised and intrigued by the sight. Patrick Petrucci shared it was his first manatee sighting in 24 years of Cape living. Manatees typically prefer warmer waters above 68 degrees and can sometimes swim as far north as Massachusetts during warm months.
"I just noticed something very weird and strange-looking that I'd never really seen before, so I walked over. It took my brain, like, three seconds to realize what it was."
"I knew exactly what it was as soon as I saw it," Stephen Petrucci said, reflecting on the moment he spotted the manatee.
