Ben Grogan lost his brother James, who fought cancer, and honors him through running. After James' death, Ben ran 11 marathons in 11 weeks, marking each letter of his name. This year, as both brothers were born in March, he's planning a significant run from Galway City to Dublin, taking 36 hours with just two stops, to celebrate James turning 50, illustrating their close relationship and the impact of James' kindness and leadership in Ben's life.
During their time together, James would also ask Ben about his runs in the mountains, and he was determined to join him one day.
Every year we always do something around his birthday and on his anniversary, but this year is not like the others so Ben explained he decided to organise something bigger.
Myself and James were both born in March so he would have been turning 50 this year and I'm turning 46, the age he was when he passed away.
So after James' passing, Ben, along with his wife and some friends, ran 11 marathons in 11 weeks, one for each letter of his name.
