Man killed in 7-car SF crash identified as engineer at Silicon Valley firm
Briefly

Mikhael Romanenko, a 27-year-old engineer at Kleiner Perkins, died in a multi-vehicle accident in San Francisco. His girlfriend Linh Luu, who survived, recalled their last moments together. The crash involved seven vehicles, and the driver, Jia Lin Zheng, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and other charges. Notably, a Waymo vehicle recorded speeds of 98 mph in a 25 mph zone. Recovering from the incident, Luu mourned the loss of their dog, Keeper, who also died. Romanenko was remembered fondly for his joyful spirit and ability to bring laughter to those around him.
It was just so much joy being around him, and anyone who's crossed paths with him, who had him in their life, they would definitely have a story, or two, or maybe a handful of stories about how he had made them laugh.
Zheng told investigators that the brakes on his Tesla vehicle hadn't responded to his attempt to stop.
