"The collision occurred around 12 noon on Saturday at Pickardstown Cross on the Waterford-Tramore Road. It involved a van and a car with the accident scene located less than 5km from Waterford city. The two deceased are understood to be a man and a woman, both aged in their 50s. Both were the occupants of the car involved in the collision. They are believed to be originally from the Leinster area."

Garda, Waterford Fire Brigade units and Health Service Executive (HSE) ambulances were immediately deployed to the scene. The road involved was closed to facilitate the work of the emergency services. Traffic diversions were put in place as Gardaí urged people to avoid the Ballykinsella Crossroads by the Robin Hill/Pickardstown Cross."
A collision between a van and a car at Pickardstown Cross on the Waterford-Tramore Road around noon resulted in two deaths, both occupants of the car and aged in their 50s. Two occupants of the van, a man and a child, received non-life-threatening treatment and were taken to University Hospital Waterford. Garda, Fire Brigade and HSE ambulances attended and the road was closed with traffic diversions in place. Garda accident investigators sealed the scene for a detailed examination, vehicles will be inspected, and witnesses, especially dash-cam users, are asked to contact Waterford Gardaí. Post mortems will be conducted and the incident raises road fatality totals for the year.
