Lorry driver killed in multi-vehicle Meath crash named locally as Bus Eireann says 'loss of colleague a shock'
"We are devastated by this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues of our Bus Éireann driver who has sadly lost his life, and with the family and friends of the driver of the other vehicle who also passed away. The loss of a colleague is a shock to everyone across Bus Éireann - our thoughts are very much with our colleague's family, friends and the many co-workers who are devastated at the loss. Our thoughts are with his family."
"The car driver, a woman in her 40s, and a teenage girl, who was a passenger of the car, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The woman was brought to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and the girl was first admitted to our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda before being transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin. A number of other people were also taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries."
A collision involving a lorry, a Bus Éireann bus on the 101 service and a car occurred at around 6.30am on the R132 in Gormanston. The lorry driver, Mr O'Reilly (40s), and a Bus Éireann driver (50s) were pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver, a woman in her 40s, and a teenage girl passenger were taken to hospital with serious injuries; the girl was later transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital. Several other passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated in hospital. The road remains closed pending a forensic examination and Bus Éireann personnel remained at the scene.
