Following the recent Merseyside derby, Liverpool and Everton have united to condemn racial abuse directed at Everton player Abdoulaye Doucoure. Post-match, Doucoure faced racist comments on his social media following a controversial sending-off during the match. Both clubs have stressed their zero-tolerance stance against racism, collaborating with Merseyside police in their investigations. The statement emphasized the necessity for social media platforms to take responsibility and implement robust actions against abusers, asserting that hate and discrimination have no place in sports or communities.
Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs are aware of and condemn in the strongest possible terms the racist abuse received by Abdoulaye Doucoure following Wednesday night's Merseyside derby.
Together, the two clubs will work with Merseyside police, who are conducting an investigation with the aim of identifying the individuals responsible for the racist abuse.
We must all, including the social media companies, take a zero-tolerance stance. Platforms need to take accountability and action to ban such abusers.
Such abuse is reprehensible and will not, and should not, be tolerated. Racism and hate has no place online, in our stadia, or in our communities.
