Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced plans for the military to facilitate the voluntary relocation of Gazans, referencing Donald Trump's proposal to temporarily displace them. Katz hailed Trump's plan that might allow a significant number of Gazans to move to countries willing to accept them. The White House later clarified that the displacement would be temporary and would not involve U.S. troops in Gaza. UN Secretary General Guterres cautioned against ethnic cleansing, warning against worsening the situation in the region.
"I welcome President Trump's bold plan, which could enable a large segment of Gaza's population to relocate to various destinations around the world," Katz said in a statement.
United Nations Secretary General António Guterres on Wednesday urged against "any form of ethnic cleansing" in Gaza, in remarks on Palestinian rights that did not directly mention Trump's proposal.
Under Trump's proposal Palestinians would be displaced temporarily rather than permanently, as Trump had initially said. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt added that it does not mean boots on the ground in Gaza.
