Letters: East Bay parks
Briefly

Support Susan Gonzales for Ward 4 of the East Bay Regional Park District. She recognizes the need for action regarding climate change, infrastructure, staffing, and funding. Her 40 years of public service, including 16 years on the park district's executive staff, position her to improve our parks significantly. Voting for her means supporting experienced leadership that understands the immediate needs of our parks and environmental challenges.
The high cost of gas in California is driven by high taxes and regulatory compliance costs. Even with the potential closure of the Phillips 66 refinery, I believe gas prices will only increase. The proposal for refineries to maintain more gasoline inventories will not lower prices but instead affect the quality of gas. People's expectations for lower prices may be misguided, given the persistent challenges faced by fuel providers.
Notably, six Democratic senators voted against the recent border bill for varied reasons, reflecting the party's diversity. Unlike Republican senators, who often vote uniformly due to fear of primaries, Democratic senators showcase their individual priorities. Achieving 88% agreement on such a complex issue indicates that they critically assess the legislation rather than following a party line. This independence is a positive sign of deliberation over blind allegiance.
