Lamps Plus's price-match guarantee was misleading as it only applied to its own products and effectively prevented customers from receiving the promised discounts.
District Attorney George Gascon stated, "This is clearly a sign to steal from the public. This isn't like an accident. This is a major corporate policy to rip off the consumer."
The accusation revealed that Lamps Plus knew their 120% price-match guarantee would rarely be honored because comparable products didn’t exist in the market as they primarily made their own branded items.
Even with the pandemic affecting shopping habits, the investigation showed how vital it is to ensure such corporate policies genuinely serve customer interests, rather than being misleading tactics.
