Judge blocks Sandy Hook families' settlement over Alex Jones bankruptcy
Briefly

A bankruptcy judge has halted the proposed settlement between the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims and Alex Jones, asserting he lacks authority to approve the asset division. Judge Christopher Lopez's ruling adds complexity to the situation, especially regarding the proposed sale of Jones’s Infowars platform. Two groups of families sought different reparation terms based on lawsuits in Texas and Connecticut, but Lopez emphasized the need for a resolution outside of bankruptcy court to ensure families can pursue remedies effectively.
This is something I can't approve. The families and Jones's bankruptcy trustee could resolve the issue in state court or return with another settlement proposal.
What this debtor needs, and what these families need, is finality in bankruptcy so they can pursue their remedies in state court.
The actual goal of this settlement motion is to grab the dividend money before the appellate courts make a decision in the pending appeals.
The judge claimed that the families' efforts to divide Jones’s assets exceeded his court’s authority, complicating a potential sale of Jones's Infowars platform.
