John Lithgow, 79, 'was so amped' to get naked in new movie 'Jimpa,' says director
Briefly

In the recent Sundance Film Festival premiere of 'Jimpa', John Lithgow, at age 79, eagerly accepted the challenge of a role that required nudity. Director Sophie Hyde emphasized Lithgow's enthusiasm, noting he viewed the character's nakedness as integral to understanding him. Lithgow's approach to acting is marked by a rich exploration of characters, and he fully committed to portraying Jimpa, a father and activist who left his family in Australia for life in Amsterdam. The film explores themes of identity and acceptance, with Lithgow's performance reflecting an open-hearted engagement with the character.
John just comes at character with this huge gusto. He's so excited, so rich and deep in his exploration, and part of that was being naked.
He was so excited by the idea of Jim, who he was, and the idea that he would get naked all the time. That was part of what appealed to John.
