It's very touching. We knew it was a goal of NOAA to make it happen. It shows how much Peter affected the field of hurricane research.
On one hand, a hurricane's coming and you don't want that for people. But on the other hand, I really wanted this to happen, as it honors my brother's legacy.
They almost didn't get out of the eye. The turbulence was severe, with one engine even catching fire, yet the crew managed to continue safely.
Peter Dodge spent 44 years in federal service, making hundreds of flights into hurricanes and contributing significantly to technology used in hurricane research.
