IAEA chief Rafael Grossi expressed grave concern over Iran's plan to rapidly increase uranium enrichment, warning it could facilitate the creation of nuclear weapons. He emphasized the clear need for Tehran to offer credible assurances that their enrichment activities are peaceful.
He highlighted that Iran's production of highly enriched uranium could soar to over 34 kilograms per month, a significant rise from 4.7 kilograms, reinforcing fears it might be moving toward weapons-grade enrichment.
Grossi stated, "This is a clear message that they are responding to what they feel is pressure," referring to Iran's recent enrichment activities and asserting the lack of civilian justification for such levels of enrichment.
The IAEA chief noted, "I think it is very concerning. They were preparing and they have all of these facilities sort of in abeyance and now they are activating that," signaling potential threats as Iran progresses with its enrichment plans.
