Anders Vistisen, a Danish MEP from the Danish People's Party, spoke out against President Trump's interest in Greenland during a session in the EU parliament. He forcefully stated, "Mr Trump, fuck off," emphasizing that Greenland is not for sale and criticizing Trump's actions as an attack on Danish sovereignty. Vistisen later elaborated on CNN, pointing out the historical ties Denmark has to Greenland, arguing Trump’s interest stems from a misunderstanding of sovereignty. Despite being from a party that aligns with Trump's views, Vistisen's comments have stirred controversy, leading to reprimands from his party leader.
It's a completely unacceptable attack on Danish sovereignty to want to claim territories that have been Danish since the tenth century, three times as long as the United States has existed.
Mr Trump, fuck off. It is not for sale.
The far-right, anti-immigration, national conservative DF is arguably the Danish party most likely to be politically aligned with Trump and the Republican Party in the US.
Morten Messerschmidt has since publicly reprimanded Vistisen for using the phrase he did.
