A tragic arson attack occurred on the Rathglyn Estate, where an elderly woman named Wilma Farara was severely injured. The fire was set against her front door, reportedly sanctioned by local loyalist paramilitaries amid rising violence in the area. Ms. Farara, who is deaf, was trapped inside while family members tried to rescue her as she desperately called for help. Currently in intensive care with critical injuries, her situation has raised concerns about local safety and community violence. Police are investigating and appealing for information regarding the incident.
According to the BBC, Ms Farara's daughter told how as she rushed to try rescue her, the elderly woman was "screaming out the window 'help me, help me' she couldn't get out."
Detectives investigating the shocking incident have confirmed they are treating the Rathglyn incident as arson with intent. And they are appealing for information from members of the public.
