Indie rock star shouts out Bay Area grocery store at amphitheater show

Chaz Bear stomped onto the Berkeley Greek stage Friday night singing 'Off Road,' a thumping track off his new album, as he waved a black flag covered in distorted white stars, an energetic display of mysterious patriotism. He spent the next hour and half proving it.
He started by pulling songs primarily from his latest effort 'Hole Erth,' an album filled with the auto-tuned vocals and drizzly bass of emo rap, then pivoted to the rest of his discography.
As locals don their costumes for Halloween, the Bay Area dons a costume of its own, with cobwebs unfurling over storefront windows and headless horsemen spawning in front of unassuming apartments.
But in spite of their new mutations, they wore toothy, menacing grins. Or festive ones. This weekend, Bay Areans seemed a bit... strange.
